Facilitating effective command and control across the Department of Defense’s massive infrastructure is no small task, especially in hostile environments where jamming, interference, or congestion of key information channels can occur. In response, the Pentagon is moving to establish a network of ‘smart bases’ which leverage a mix of cybersecurity and advanced networking capabilities (like 5G) to ensure secure, resilient connectivity to U.S. troops and allied forces — wherever and whenever the situation calls for it. In this webcast, C4ISRNET examined these questions as well as recent efforts by the DoD to transform existing installations into military smart bases that can empower and protect their personnel.
